Founded in 1937 by Edward L. Crain, this subdivision, called Garden Oaks has tall pines and magnificent magnolia trees lining the streets and is accompanied by approximately 1,400 single family homes. Five unique sections make up the Garden Oaks area. Garden Oaks is a neighborhood full of charming cottages and quaint bungalows, as well as sprawling plantation style homes and ranches. There is a blend of mid-century homes, pier and beam cottages, and post war G.I. homes, built primarily for returning veterans after World War II. New homes are replacing older homes adding a modern feel to the unique mix of homes.
