Consisting mostly of rich farmland in the early 1960s, the area known as Memorial Villages, began developing in 1968. Widespread building and developing of suburban homes lead to the area’s attraction of a large amount of commercial entities wanting to get in on the fresh market opportunities.

Memorial Villages is a compilation of several villages; Bunker Hill Village, Hedwig Village, Spring Valley Village, Hillshire Village, Piney Point Village, and Hunters Creek Village. Although each Memorial Village maintains its autonomy, independent from the city of Houston, they enjoy joined police and fire district coverage with Houston.


Bunker Hill Village


Bunker Hill Village was originally a German settlement built around a sawmill to process the area’s lumber. The city, incorporated in 1954, with an estimated 2010 census population of approximately 5,700 residents, was named by Forbes.com as one of the “Top Suburbs to Live Well.”

Hedwig Village


Hedwig Village was named after a German settler who had come to the area to farm the land. Hedwig Schroeder moved her family to Texas in 1906 after reading about the vast rich soil and beauty of the area. The estimated 2010 population is 5,200.

Spring Valley Village


Spring Valley Village was incorporated in 1955. A notable resident, Pam Lychner, called Spring Valley Village Home. Lychner was responsible for the “Pam Lychner Sexual Offender Tracking and Identification Act of 1996.” The bill was passed into law by the United States Congress after Lychner and her daughters perished in the TWA flight 800 disaster. A statue of Lychner and her daughters was placed in the Spring Valley Village City Hall.

Hillshire Village


With an estimated 2010 population of around 1,000 people, Hillshire Village is the smallest of the towns that make up Memorial Villages, but do not let that fool you. Hillshire Village may be the small kid on the block, but it has been named as the 10th wealthiest location in the state of Texas, a tall order.

Piney Point Village


Piney Point Village began as a railway station in 1885. It quickly became a popular area for farming and was settled by a group of German farmers, taking up residence near the area’s sawmill. Piney Point Village has been named the second wealthiest city in the state of Texas.

Hunters Creek Village


Also named by Forbes.com as one of the “Top Suburbs to Live Well”, Hunters Creek Village not only holds that title proudly, but has been named as the 5th wealthiest city in the state of Texas. Settled by German farmers and mill workers, Hunters Creek Village was incorporated in 1954.
