In the northern area of Harris County sits the city of Spring, Texas; a city originally inhabited by the Orcoquiza Indians. Established as a trade city in the early 1800’s, Spring experienced excellent growth and prosperity over the next century; it has become one of the most prominent suburbs of Houston. The population of Spring grew by leaps and bounds.

In 1903, The International and Great Northern Railroad was constructed in Spring, connecting Spring to Fort Worth. Soon, Spring became recognized as a trade mecca. A roundhouse was soon built making Spring a switchyard with over 200 railway workers and fourteen track yards. Later in 1923, the roundhouse relocated to Houston, causing a slight decline in the economy, but Spring was determined not to fail as a community.

In 1969, the Goodyear airship America was housed in Spring, but later moved to Akron, Ohio in 1992. The housing of the airship brought many visitors as well as special recognition to the city. The state of Texas provided funding to the city to refurbish some of the older houses in one area of Spring. Those houses were remodeled and the owners opened quaint shops making the area now known as Old Town Spring a tourist area.

The census of 2000 shows the population of Spring, Texas was counted at 36,385 residents. It is predicted that the 2010 census will reveal the population to be approximately 45,000 residents. Nearly 13,000 single family homes and 20 multiple family homes are located in Spring, offering excellent housing choices for its inhabitants.

There are nine elementary schools, four junior high schools, and three high schools in Spring, Texas, but Spring also offers a wide range of private schools, too. There are sixteen private learning institutions within the city limits, with Trinity Lutheran School receiving the national honor of being awarded recognition as a Blue Ribbon school. The Lone Star College, a community college, serves the Spring, Texas area.

Hundreds of acres of parks dot the city of Spring, Texas, providing vast areas of recreation for residents and visitors. There are also golf courses and a water park for anyone’s enjoyment.

Spring has been called one of the best city’s in Texas to raise a family. With the great schools, housing choices, and recreation, Spring, Texas is a good place to visit and an even better place to live.
